The Great Glass City Clean Up 2012

This event already happened, and was a success!

During this rescheduled cleaning event, due to rain, 114 volunteers came out to pick up litter in dense neighborhoods in the Greater Toledo Area.  182 trash bags were removed from Toledo.

Main Sponsors for this event included:

  • Owens Community College,
  • The University of Toledo,
  • Vito’s Pizza,
  • Office Max,
  • & many other small contributors

This program is designed to clean neighborhoods rapidly while raising awareness in the community.  Each volunteer is educated on the effects of litter build up and ways to prevent it.

Let's Talk About It

  1. Connor Soncrant says:

    service hours!

  2. Darlene Miller says:

If we don’t do it, who will?

  3. Bev Bingle says:

Doesn’t make sense to drive 8 miles to pick up trash when there’s plenty of it in the Old North End where I live. How about a location here?

    • Bev, this is an entirely voluntary program. We have made a litter grid and will clean the dirtiest areas first. The closest location to your area is probably at Ravine Park. We wish we could have found contacts in the Old North, however we ran out of time. For that, we apologize!

If your willing to help, let us know and we can coordinate in the Old North.

      Jeffrey

  4. Matt Wilson says:

Hey, I received a phone call asking to be a team leader. The only problem is that I had to choose a different location because my teacher wants all my classmates to meet at the same location. Does this cause a problem?

  5. Catherine Rogers Jorgenson says:

    What are the locations?

  6. Is it possible to add an eleventh site to the list? Bowman Park on Jackman (near Laskey) is in GREAT NEED of a litter clean-up. Our 5 and 6 year olds play ball in this park and would enjoy participating in an activity like this (with parental assistance, of course). I bet that other families on their team and league would participate too! This environment is a safer location for younger children to become involved in such a worthwhile cause. (Safer because it is far from roadways, etc.) I am willing to be a team leader at this location if approved!

  7. Shijie Huang says:

Hello!I have signed up on last Saturday and I chose “contact”me by e-mail,but so far I haven’t got any news about that.Is there anything wrong? Thanks.

  11. So Excited! The event is in 2 days!! :)

  12. Sue Brown says:

Are you cancelling the event this afternoon, given the forecast and rain that we have already had. I hate to drive to the site if it is going to be cancelled and need to let my residents and another staff person know as well. Is there s phone number that I can call?

  13. Sue Brown says:

Just wanted to let you know that the 43609 zip code is in need of attention also, especially from the Trail down Western to Airport near Byrne. I pick up trash in the neighborhood from the 3100 block of Airport to Byrne and down the side streets when I can.

  14. Stas Krukowski says:

I’ve been interested in cleaning up this city since I joined cubscouts in 1983, and we cleaned up part of what was then Crosby Gardens. I would love to do my part to keep up our civic pride by picking up trash…I walk every day in one of a few city and county parks, and all need help. The worst I see is Ottowa Park, with Liberty and Willys parks a close second. The roads around those parks and Wood Lawn Cemetary are atrocious with people dumping all over the place…I try to fill one bag of garbage on each walk, and have no problem doing so!
